Guitar Bear GIF by Cheezburger - Find & Share on GIPHY

Hello Tiny Cubs,

Welcome to your last blog before half term!

ZOOM, TODAY, 11am! The link should have been sent to you. It will be really lovely for the children to be able to interact and may bring some added joy to the home learning process. Please join us if you can. I will not be talking about work or anything nerve-wracking and after everyone says hello, I will keep the children muted until it is their turn to talk. Bear with me as I have never hosted one of these things before, I usually just show up to them!

Gorgeous work from yesterday:

Tahlia and her Mummy wanted to share this amazing photo:

Tahlia visited what is believed to be pirate graves in Whitby last summer, she had great fun trying to spot them in the ruins, she thought the others may like to see them.

What clue do you think Tahlia was looking for when she was trying to spot graves of pirates?

Funny Friday video –

Here is your final sparkling start sheet of year 1 (crazy right?). I can’t wait to see what you produce. Please do not bring sparkling starts into school, photos will be wonderful so that I can put together a virtual sparkling start board. The more that come in, the more awesome the board.

MORNING WORK

Morning Mindfulness – Close your eyes and do some square breathing. Think of the place where you feel the most peaceful. It may be a place you have really been, it may be in your imagination. I would like you to imagine yourself in that place for a couple of minutes while carrying on with your breathing until you feel at peace. Once you feel calm, open your eyes and draw the safe, peaceful space which you went to. You may take as much time as you need to do this, put on some peaceful music to draw to (example: The Piano Guys, Enya, Yiruma, Joshua Radin, Jose Gonzalez, Kate Rusby). When you have finished, put that picture up in your room and whenever you feel anxious or sad I want you to look at your safe place and do your breathing until you feel calmer.

Feeling safe is very important, if you ever feel unsafe make sure you tell a grown up you trust so they can help you feel safe.

These better be good. I am not lion.

Apologies for the appalling animal puns – day 80 of quarantine is clearly getting to me.😂

BREAKTIME

Spend 20 minutes out in the fresh air or if this is not an option, open all the windows and try this video, have a big glass of water and healthy snack too.

GUIDED READING

Here are some challenges for our Friday (as I am sure you have read all the books in your house…right?) Try and colour in 2-3 today!

MATHS

Warm up –

Instructions (to be read and followed by the children with minimal prompting):

  • Draw around both of your hands on a piece of paper like in the picture above.
  • Draw fingernails on your right hand and colour them blue.
  • Draw a green finger puppet on your left little finger.
  • Draw fingernails on your left hand and colour them pink.
  • Draw a ring on your right thumb.
  • Draw a temporary tattoo of a bear on your left hand

Okay now to learn something that may or may not be new to you. A rather lengthy video for an easy concept so you don’t have to watch it all the way through, just make sure you understand before switching off.

Find yourself a coloured pencil that is NOT black and a ruler. Complete this sheet/ ask your grown ups to draw you out some circles in your book for you to do the work on.

LUNCHTIME

Have a healthy lunch, a big drink of water and a run around outside. Here is a brainbreak video to get you started!

PHONICS

By the end of year 1 you need to know how to spell all your common exception words. Grown ups – please read the 5 first words to your child as if you are doing a spelling test. The child should be able to spell the words correctly.

If they make a mistake either:

  • Write that word out 3x
  • Use rainbow writing
  • make a dot to dot of the word
  • Draw a picture incorporating the word.

Then, test them on that word again.

If you get all 5 correct, WELL DONE. Choose one of the words to use in a super sentence.

Have a wonderful week, you can email me updates and pictures just bear in mind that I may not get to them as quickly as I do during school weeks. My birthday is on the 31st May so I am hoping to have a chilled out week and maybe some yummy cake and sparkling… juice. Last year I was recovering from an operation on my birthday so I am just glad that I can move about this year.

My birthday last year – my friend came to visit with her baby.

Thank you grownups for your continued support – it has meant so much to me and the school.

Thank you children for being so resilient and wonderful.

Biggest Bear Hugs to last you the WHOLE week.
